Cosmic Oasis Studio
Stillness practiced with intention, every session.

Hi, I'm Alan. I teach yoga.

Cosmic Oasis Studio is a small, unhurried practice space. I run classes for people who want to move carefully, breathe properly, and actually understand what they're doing on the mat.
/now Currently: re-reading B.K.S. Iyengar's Light on Life, working through a new restorative sequence for the autumn schedule, and growing too many tomatoes.

The story behind the studio

I opened Cosmic Oasis Studio in the spring of 2019 after eight years of teaching and training abroad. The name came from a conversation I had with a student in Chiang Mai who described her practice as 'finding a quiet place inside a noisy universe.' I liked that. The studio itself is a converted ground-floor space in a Victorian terrace. High ceilings, original floorboards, and enough natural light in the mornings to make you feel like you're somewhere else entirely. I spent three months stripping it back before a single student walked through the door.

The first year was harder than I expected. I had twelve students in the first term, which felt thin after teaching rooms of thirty in Bali. But I kept the class sizes small deliberately, and by the end of 2019 most of those twelve had brought someone with them. What I noticed was that people were actually progressing. Not just showing up and sweating, but genuinely understanding their bodies differently. That felt like the right direction. I've kept the same model since: small cohorts, term-based structure, intake conversations before anyone joins a class.

I don't reset every session for new arrivals. That's what the intake is for.

What's on the schedule

I run a fixed term schedule with a small number of class types. Prices are per class for drop-in formats, or per term for the Foundations cohort. All props are provided. If you're not sure which class suits you, the quiz below or a short email to me will sort it out.
1

Foundations Term (8 weeks)

Eight consecutive Tuesday evenings, 6:30-8:00pm. We cover standing poses, seated forward folds, basic backbends, and the breathing work that ties it all together. Maximum six students. Starts each new term in September, January, and April.

£320 per term
2

Alignment Vinyasa (drop-in)

Tuesday and Thursday mornings at 7:30am, Saturday mornings at 9:00am. A 75-minute flowing class with long holds and detailed verbal cues. Requires prior experience or completion of Foundations.

£22 per class
3

Restorative and Yin (drop-in)

Friday evenings, 7:00-8:30pm. Six poses, ninety minutes, bolsters and blankets throughout. The room is warm and the lights are low. I've been running this session since the studio opened and it has the most loyal regulars of anything I teach.

Pregnancy yoga from 14 weeks: what to expect in your first session

You're somewhere around 14 weeks, the nausea is (hopefully) easing off, and someone — your midwife, a friend, a random thread on a forum — has suggested pregnancy yoga. The room in your head is busy: is it just stretching? Will I be the only one who can't do anything? What if I need the bathroom three times? I've been sitting with these questions myself, and I want to write down what I actually found, because most of what's online is either too vague to be useful or reads like a brochure. This is more like a note I wish I'd had before I walked in. I'm still working some of this out as the weeks go on, but there's enough here to make that first session feel a lot less opaque.

Here is where to start

Based on your answers, the Foundations term or a one-to-one intake session is likely the most useful first step. Both give me enough time to understand your body before you join a group class. Have a look at the current schedule or drop me a line if you'd like to talk it through.

Behind the bench

"Alan Dunmore spent eight years teaching in studios across Southeast Asia before returning to open Cosmic Oasis Studio in 2019. He trained under a senior Iyengar teacher in Pune, completed a 500-hour vinyasa certification in Chiang Mai, and spent two years assisting at a therapeutic yoga clinic in Bali working with post-injury clients. What brought him home was a specific frustration: most studios he'd worked in treated yoga as a fitness product. He wanted something slower, more considered. Outside the studio he reads a lot of philosophy, keeps a sourdough starter he's had since 2020, and is slowly learning classical guitar."

FAQ

Common questions

Do I need to have done yoga before to join a class?

For Alignment Vinyasa and Restorative, yes. I ask for at least two years of consistent practice or completion of my Foundations term. If you're genuinely new, Foundations is the right starting point. It runs three times a year and the next cohort starts in September. The intake conversation will help us figure out where you fit.

What happens if I need to cancel a class I've booked?

For drop-in classes, I ask for 24 hours' notice for a credit. Cancellations within 24 hours are not refunded, but if something genuinely unexpected happens, send me an email and we'll sort it out. For the Foundations term, the fee is non-refundable after the first session, but I can usually carry you over to the next cohort if life gets in the way.
